Mario is one of the few players that I take very personally. I’ve been watching him since the VfB days. He rose, fell, rose again, and I’m there watching, feeling his pains and joys.
Mario is a wonderful human being. He is valuable and deserves all the best, all the support, all the love. He’s the kind of person that you can never defeat or bend. I remember a VfB fan asked Bayern fans to take care of him after his transfer. I really wanted to, but it’s beyond my control and his first year was anything but enjoyable.
Mario thanked fans for the support at the end of this season. I’m grateful for it’s what we fans mean to do, so he really didn’t have to thank us. Once after losing a match, I went on his blog trying to say something comforting. And all the people were already there, leaving tons of messages, cheering him up. At that time, he hadn’t scored for half a year.
I don’t know why I say these on his birthday. To make sure he is loved by everyone? He is, of course.
Happy birthday, Mario. Keep your smile and shine on, child of tender gold. We love you, always.
